Kinesio Tapes - Kinesiological Tapes
Kinesiological tapes, also known as kinesio tapes, are therapeutic tapes made of stretchable materials and originally come from Japanese medicine. They are used to heal injuries, loosen muscles and reduce inflammation. In the online shop at AcuMax you will find a large selection at favourable prices.
What are kinesio tapes?
Kinesio tapes were developed around 30 years ago by Japanese chiropractor Kenzo Kase. Highly elastic, breathable and skin-friendly, the tapes stretch and pull together like a second skin without restricting freedom of movement. Many amateur and professional athletes swear by their pain-relieving and metabolism-stimulating effect, although this has not been scientifically proven. However, it appears to be proven by the extensive practical experience of therapists, carers and departments of competitive athletes. Where conventional, rigid plasters only passively stabilise an injured joint, kinesio tapes gently massage the joint, stimulating lymph and blood flow. Kinesio tapes are superior to other conventional methods, especially for blunt injuries such as torn muscle fibres.
Effect and application of kinesiology tapes
Kinesio tapes are used for muscle complaints, tension and inflammation and are intended to activate self-healing processes in the body. The elastic cotton tapes with skin-friendly acrylic adhesive are applied to the painful areas by a physiotherapist, for example, or under professional guidance and adhere closely to the skin. Joints and muscles are stretched and the tape is applied to the stretched skin. The adhesive strength is increased by rubbing lightly. For a better hold, the end edges should be cut with rounded corners. When the muscles and joints are relaxed again, the tape curls slightly and pulls the skin along a little at a time. Over 80 % of pain points are located in this layer of skin. The light pull on the skin stimulates the body to activate pain-relieving systems. In the case of muscle pain, they are like a second additional skin and are intended to direct the focus and inner energy to the affected areas in order to strengthen the body's self-healing powers.
Kinesio tapes can be used as a supportive tape bandage for pain, tension and inflammation, for example:
- Slipped discs
- Chronic Achilles tendon complaints
- Thumb saddle joint arthrosis
- Hallux valgus
- lumbago
- Knee osteoarthritis
- Knee joint overload
- Headache
- Lumbalgia
- Meniscus surgery (postoperative)
- Torn muscle fibres and muscle strain
- After cruciate ligament reconstruction and after cruciate ligament rupture, medial ligament tear/tear
- After patellar luxation (kneecap)
- After ankle injuries
- Neck pain
- Rotator cuff tear
- Back pain
- Tendon irritation
- Tendonitis
- scoliosis
- overstretching
- Tension and sprain
- Strain
What do the colours of the Kinesio Tapes mean?
All colours are used as a supportive tape bandage for pain. All are equally skin-friendly, elastic and breathable. They are all made of the same cotton with the same acrylic adhesive. The colours have their meaning in kinesiological colour theory. Each colour stands for a positive quality, a treatment method from colour therapy. In kinesiology tapes, red tones have a warming, stabilising and energising effect. Yellow kinesio tapes have a neutral effect. Kinesiology tapes in beige also have a neutral effect and are preferably used on the face and neck due to their proximity to the skin colour. Blue and black tapes have a powerful, relaxing and invigorating effect. Green kinesio tapes have a balancing and harmonising effect.
