Ultrasound therapy, together with electrotherapy, is one of the common forms of physical therapy. Therapeutic ultrasound is applied at frequencies of 1 MHz or 3 MHz, either continuously or in pulses with different duty cycles. Because of its varied effects, ultrasound therapy is classified as mechanothermal therapy. Depending on the treatment parameters (frequency, type of sound, dose, duration and schedule), the main effect may be thermal – heat generated at reflective tissue boundaries such as bones and joints – or a micromassage of the treated tissue segment. The effects of ultrasound therapy can be summarised as follows:
  • Increased blood flow to the treated area
  • Acceleration of metabolic processes
  • (microcirculation and diffusion)
  • Increased extensibility of connective tissue structures
  • (collagen fibres)
  • Pain relief
  • Reduction in muscle tone and release of spasms
  • Acceleration of healing processes
  • Stimulation of fracture healing

PHYSIOMED ultrasound therapy devices help you start treatment quickly and easily. You can select settings directly, use the indication index or choose from the programme memory. All parameters remain visible throughout treatment. PHYSIOMED’s tried-and-tested single-button operation, used for decades, makes the devices intuitive and quick to operate.
Detailed indication lists with helpful information, graphics and animations, as well as the patient database, make ultrasound applications easier. Two ergonomic treatment heads are available, with surface areas of 2.5 or 5 square centimetres; both are also suitable for underwater treatment. The biocompatible, exceptionally durable titanium transducer surface provides a high level of safety and reliability in power delivery and prevents metallurgical deposits. Combined with continuous or pulsed power delivery (four duty cycles: 1:10, 1:5, 1:3 and 2:5), optical and acoustic coupling control supports efficient therapy.
