Safety MITOVIT®
The MITOVIT® hypoxic training device offers the highest level of safety during use, thanks to two pulse oximeters. Two SpO2 values are always recorded and compared in parallel. Thanks to this dual safeguard, the safety mechanism can intervene and immediately supply the user with normoxic air in the event of a pulse oximeter failure, erroneous readings or a discrepancy between the two measurement values. This ensures that no accidental drop in oxygen saturation falls below the threshold range during treatment.
MITOVIT® contains a safety valve which, in the event of a power cut or device failure, ensures that the supply of ambient air is maintained.
As tolerance to hyperoxia varies from person to person, a fully automated hypoxia test integrated into the MITOVIT® system should be carried out before the first hypoxia training session in order to determine the individual’s optimal oxygen concentration.
Application
Train in a relaxed manner – made possible by the MITOVIT® Hypoxic Training Device!
Hypoxia training is best carried out in a semi-reclining position. Through the comfortable breathing mask, the user breathes oxygen-poor and oxygen-rich air at intervals to mimic the stimuli experienced during physical exertion. During the training, the user can breathe normally and does not experience any shortness of breath. A session with the MITOVIT® hypoxic training device lasts 40 minutes.
For athletes wishing to improve their performance, hypoxia training can also be used during moderate physical exertion, for example on an ergometer. In such cases, the hypoxia level should be set between 18 % and 15 % oxygen.

Nobel Prize in Medicine for research into hypoxia
In 2019, the three scientists William Kaelin, Gregg Semenza and Peter Ratcliffe were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their research and discovery of molecular mechanisms involved in cellular oxygen supply. Cells are able to measure oxygen levels and recognise when adaptive responses are necessary, including the beneficial response to hypoxia. The benefits of hypoxia in accelerating the apoptosis of weakened mitochondria and stimulating the formation of new mitochondria can be utilised with MITOVIT® through a gentle application.
