Foreword

All too often, Chinese medicine is reduced to acupuncture - and acupuncture to the symptomatic treatment of pain syndromes.
This does not even begin to do justice to Chinese medicine and its possibilities. To put it simply, Chinese medicine is a system that is thousands of years old, which describes dependencies and disruptive influences on our body and provides very differentiated, tried and tested treatment suggestions. Chinese medicine describes the body as a finely tuned, complex, energetic balance system. Chinese energy medicine defines the body in a balanced state as healthy and deviations from this balance as illness.
In the case of complex pathology, such as rheumatism, the interplay of multiple factors and individual predispositions results in the manifestation of the disease and its symptoms. There is therefore no single causal cause that can be specifically treated. In Western medicine, the treatment methods are usually uniformly generalised, in this case a painkiller for the pain symptoms, cortisone to suppress symptoms, or antibiotics to treat the bacterial infestation as the cause of the disease.
A basic understanding of the fundamental principles of Chinese medicine is initially difficult due to the unfamiliar terminology. However, if you focus on the cornerstones of the teachings, you quickly realise that Chinese medicine describes energetic states of balance and deviations with very effective means. The deviation from the balanced normal state (healthy) is mainly described using four simple opposing terms: inside-outside, top-bottom, hot-cold and the differentiated observation of a disease process according to whether it has a pronounced YIN or more YANG character. This description of the condition is very differentiated and specific. It can be used to describe diseases and therapeutic progress very precisely.
With this work, my esteemed colleague Professor Dr Bahr has succeeded in describing the differentiated view and the possibilities of Chinese medicine in its application today and placing its significance in the context of the overall medical possibilities in a context that allows colleagues in daily practice to apply this knowledge immediately in practice.
A standard work that describes the current significance of Chinese energy medicine for the treating physician and should have a permanent place in practice as a guide.
